Subtle ways to update your home for Fall

The days are getting shorter, kids are back in school, and fall is just around the corner. It’s my favorite time of year and I can’t wait to start putting my summer decor away and begin introducing fall into our space. I have recently embraced a more intentional approach to decorating our home where I try to invest in pieces that I love while changing only a few decor pieces through the season. This allows me to control the amount of “stuff” that I bring into my home while still giving me some freedom to have fun with decorating.

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to mean pumpkins and fall leaves everywhere. Keep reading for my simple tips to update your decor for fall. I didn’t want to spend any money on new decor as we are currently working behind the scenes in making over two different rooms in our home. I was able to accomplish all my fall updates without spending any money!

I encourage you to try and do the same. Embrace what you already own and think creatively in using them in different ways or rooms. You won’t believe how different something will look by just moving into another room.

Add Texture

When I think about fall, I immediately think cozy. My goal is to make my home as cozy as possible. A simple way to add a little coziness to any room is by adding texture. I add throw blankets to our couch, chairs, and beds to invite you in to curl up with a good book or nap!

I also love to incorporate rugs to help warm up our tile floors. I have two faux sheepskin rugs that I love to pull out once the weather gets a little colder. It adds the perfect amount of coziness without being too bulky. Creating a cozy corner with a throw blanket, a pillow, and a cozy rug where I can curl up with a good book is always a must for fall!

Update Throw pillows

One of my favorite ways to update my decor as the seasons change is by updating our throw pillows. I like to invest in just the throw pillow covers because it allows me to save on storage space while still being able to switch up my decor whenever the mood strikes. It’s also a super economical and easy way to update a space!

Introduce Fall Flowers

You may be starting to notice a theme with my decorating style - I’m all about affordable and easy decorating pieces to help style your more expensive, antique pieces.

Although I would love to have fresh flowers around my home everyday, our budget doesn’t allow for it. So I gravitate towards faux florals and love to update them as the seasons change. I try to only buy faux flowers that look natural and that come in colors that are actually found in nature.

I hoped you enjoyed reading through these tips. Decorating for fall doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend money on new decor every year. By using stuff you already have and creating intentional updates you can create a cozy atmosphere for you and your family to enjoy all season long.
